A big Black man tells other men that I am not their future prey. This may sound misogynistic, but a girl is just trying to survive on vacation. Jamaica is not a place I would just venture out on my own and aimlessly explore. A good neighborhood can quickly become a bad one. The only time I was not on an excursion and not next to a man was when my friends and I went to the club (Pier 1 Nightclub). It was an outdoor venue, and no one harassed me, which is always amazing! And we received door-to-door car service from the club, so no problems getting back to the resort late at night. A 10-min cab ride from my hotel to the Pier 1 Night Club cost $20 per person and there was 3 of us. $60 for a 10-min ride??? That is absolutely insane. Additionally, Jamaica is very expensive because the excursions cost more than a place like Mexico, but unlike Mexico, food was never included in the activity. The excursions were also shorter than the ones in Mexico, so I was able to eat at my all-inclusive resort. While talking about food, please try the KFC if you are staying in Montego Bay. Additionally, I am a high maintenance girlie, so I stayed at an all-inclusive resort, did excursions almost every day, and partied/ate outside of the resort. We stayed at the Riu Cancun, which was a 10-minute walk to the restaurant and club strip. We came back from the club at around 3am and had no problems. BUT, anyone could walk into my resort because there were no security guards at the gate. When my friends and I walked around Cancun, all we saw were tourists. The clubs didn’t even play Spanish music. I only listened to American music. I did not feel very connected to the local culture even though I did some cultural tours of Chichen Itza and the Tulum Ruins. It was interesting to learn about the Maya culture, but it felt like a tourist attraction. It was awesome being forced to speak Spanish! It can be nerve-wrecking, but you’ll never get better without practice. I felt very safe there, but I also made sure to do the following because crime can happen anywhere: - I did not walk at night and took Ubers instead (Except when I went to a restaurant across the street from my hotel). Remember your life is more important than saving $3 on an Uber - I stayed aware of my surroundings and belongings - I did not overindulge in alcohol So, basically, I used common sense and I was fine! Another thing to note is that if you are an attractive woman, then most likely men will comment on your beauty. Men whispered to me “que linda” and “hermosa.” I personally was not bothered by it. It was unnecessary for him to talk on the bus as he said the same information at the site as he did on the bus. · It was hard to follow along to the guide story as he told half the story in Spanish and half in English. So, anyone that only knew one language on the bus was screwed. · Once we arrived at the site we separated into Spanish and English groups, so I was finally able to understand the full story. But we stood in one spot too long for me. If you are a non-European citizen traveling around Switzerland, I recommend getting the SBB Swiss Travel Pass or the EuRail Pass. I purchased the 7-day EuRail Global Pass since I was visiting Switzerland and Italy during my trip. Additionally, if you are from Europe, but not from Switzerland then you can buy the Swiss Travel Pass as well. The Swiss Travel Pass allows unlimited trips via train, bus, and boat. The Eurail Pass is only valid for trains. There are select trains not included in the pass and all bus rides are not included, so you would need to buy those tickets through the SBB app. The Eurail website/app will tell you which trains rides are included in your pass.
